Around Springtime I remember somebody (I can't remember who) talking about a macaw owned by a friend of theirs.

Apparently macaws live for a very long time and this one had been around for donkey's years (or macaw's years I suppose).

This macaw used to say often the phrase: "Make us a cup of tea, Joyce!"
Not unusual for one of these birds to mimic human speech however what interested me was that Joyce was apparently the long dead grandmother of the current owner and that the mother remembered her grandmother (Joyce's mother and the current owner's great grandmother) saying this to Joyce.

The bird was quoting the matriarch from beyond the grave.

Joyce's mother bought a pet Macaw
And named him Bobby Corwen
The bird sat in the parlour
Whilst Joyce and Mother played a game of
Gin or rummy til Joyce's Mum would say:

Joyce had a Daughter of her own
They would stay up late
Sewing sequins on her shoes
For some dancing show
Bobby squawking as they sew
Joyce's daughter asks her mum to go:

In 1985
Joyce's daughter had a daughter of her own
And that Macaw was still alive
20 years go by
Joyce's mother dies
Life fully lived as fully a life can be lived

O 60-something years have flown
Since Joyce's mother brought him home
Bobby Corwen in the parlour
Squawking down the years
Joyce and daughter's tears
At Joyce's daughter's daughter dancing
To the bird's refrain
