My debut album may well end up as an example of grand folly in the footnotes of the annals of music history. It was written between the years 2000 (Vodka Stomach, Bleary) and 2005 (Look! Who's Sorry Now?) during my time working in the various pubs, bars, and venues of Preston in Lancashire and indulging my love of 50's rock'n'roll, 60's garage and surf-rock, and David Lynch soundtracks.
I recorded and re-recorded this album obsessively; both myself, and with the help of other local 'producers' (read: people who owned portastudios) but was never able to put it in a state for proper release due to my startling inability to find a group of people who wanted to be full-time musicians.

When I moved to Manchester in 2013, it seemed like a good starting point to work on with the excellent group of musicians I was working with, under the name The Tontine (in reference to the deadly wartime betting practice rather than the inappropriately named pillow manufacturers). The album was recorded live with us all in the same room with later Omnichord overdubs, and mixed by myself.

Alas after its release, the dissipation of the band, some spectacularly bad management difficulties, and some other mental health bumps led to my need once again, take a couple of steps back from music and re-evaluate. This set of songs remains both my North Star, and my ground zero. Something I always return to when I am lost and don't know which creative direction to turn.

When I then formed Granfalloon as a tentative experiment in musical self-sufficiency, of course, this was the set of songs I returned to; to experiment with. Or perhaps, like a murderer returning to the scene of a crime.

My new Bandcamp Subscription model finally affords me a place where I can to come to terms with my own history and present these works side-by-side to show my audience the interesting journey between the two.
